THE HEART OF MY MED BUDDY
Families today are busier than ever. Between sports, school, carpools and careers, it can be a struggle for parents to juggle it all while focusing on their family’s health. In the meantime, an estimated 32 million children are suffering from chronic illnesses. Families are overwhelmed by the changing medical landscape and how to secure the best medical care and resources for their children. When you couple the rising numbers of chronically ill kids with a lack of available tools to manage their care, it has the potential to be disastrous.
We believe healthy families make for happy lives. We play hard, work hard, and love hard. Our families mean the world to us and when it comes to caring for them, good health is at the top of our lists. We know how hard it can be to make healthy choices for our families and we know all about the challenges of managing a child’s medical condition. “When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.” (Sophia Loren) My Med Buddy is a parent’s secret weapon when it comes to tracking and managing their family’s health and medical needs, making it easier to think twice.
THE HISTORY OF MY MED BUDDY
When our daughter was diagnosed at only 4 months old with a rare chronic disease, we struggled to not only keep a straight schedule of her feeds and medications, but to accurately track our older daughter’s routine illnesses and treatments. We began searching for a tool that would help us track typical kid health issues but had no luck. Over time, we developed our own tools to manage her care. We created charts to track symptoms, fevers, and basic health information for not only our daughter, but all of our kids. It was a tedious and stressful process, but worth it as we were able to immediately recall important details for her healthcare team. Soon we were sharing these tools with other moms and dads who wanted to have a more detailed record of their own children’s health histories and My Med Buddy was born in early 2012.
ABOUT THE BRAND
My Med Buddy is a health and medical brand that encourages parents to write their family’s unique medical story by capturing important health and medical details. Inspired by her growing family, her Midwestern roots and her own experiences as the mama of a special needs child, Eden began creating the tools and products she wanted (and needed) in her own life. From there, parents around the world have joined together to form a passionate community of advocates fighting for their children’s health.
Eden Lord is the Founder and CEO of My Med Buddy. Raised in Leawood, Kansas, Eden holds degrees in Economics, Management, and Education. Upon graduating with her Masters, Eden was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Struggling to manage her diagnosis and build her career, she spent several years as a corporate tax accountant and volunteered with various nonprofits in Kansas City, from Hallmark’s Kaleidoscope and Junior Achievement, to the United Way and YouthFriends. After receiving the YouthFriends Charter School Volunteer of the Year award in 2005, she began drafting collegiate curriculum for universities across the United States before launching My Med Buddy in 2012. Following the success of My Med Buddy among parents worldwide, My Med Buddy is now found in world renowned children’s hospitals and medical facilities such as the National Institutes of Health and the Mayo Clinic.
Now as an entrepreneur, wife and mama to three kids (plus 4 guardian angel babies), Eden enjoys weekend hikes with her husband and exploring Kansas City with her kids. When she’s offline, she loves connecting with other special needs families through The Cambria Lord Foundation and My City Med, an online medical community Eden founded in 2013. She also serves as a PCORI Ambassador, the Kansas State Ambassador for NORD’s Rare Action Network, and the Kansas State Support Leader for the CARES Foundation.
Jeff Lord is the Chief Technical Officer of My Med Buddy. Hailing from a small town in central Missouri, he was an only child driven by ambition. After completing his degree, he arrived in Kansas City, earned his Masters and began serving as a Senior Corporate IT Manager for non-profit and private corporations. When he isn’t overseeing MyMedBuddy.com, Jeff works as the Director of IT for a world class non-profit organization based in downtown Kansas City.
